What Is the NFEM Rate?

The Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market (NFEM) is the officially recognised spot exchange rate window in Nigeria, replacing the old I&E window. All rates on this page are the daily closing rates published by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The "Weighted Average Rate" reflects the volume-weighted mid-rate across all transactions on a given day, and is the rate most commonly used for benchmarking imports, remittances, and FX obligations.

Naira Strengthened ~15% in 10 Months
After hitting a monthly average peak of ₦1,603/$ in April 2025, the naira steadily appreciated. By February 2026, the monthly average dropped to ₦1,356/$ — roughly 15% stronger. The trend reflects improved oil revenues, tighter CBN monetary policy, and rising diaspora remittances channelled through official windows.
Feb 17, 2026 Was the Strongest Day
The naira recorded its strongest closing rate in this dataset on February 17, 2026 at ₦1,337/$. This came amid an unusually strong February, which averaged ₦1,356/$ — the best monthly average in the 16-month window. Early March 2026 saw some reversal, likely driven by oil price weakness and rising USD demand ahead of quarter-end.
